Girl’s burns ordeal as hair catches fire
Date published: 23 September 2009
A THREE-YEAR-OLD girl suffered burns after her hair caught fire from a scented candle.
The girl had been playing in the hallway of her house in Angelico Rise, Moorside, when her long hair caught fire from the unprotected candle.
The girl’s father managed to put out the flames and fire crews from Oldham were called out at 6.25pm.
She suffered burns to her hair and forehead.
Fire crews gave her first aid before she was taken to the Royal Oldham Hospital.
The Fire Service is now urging residents not to leave scented candles unattended — especially not near children — and to store candles in suitable holders.
