Parking measures spark anger
Date published: 25 September 2009
Residents do not have an automatic right to park outside their own homes, council officers have told angry residents of Church Road, Shaw.
Homeowners had complained about new waiting restrictions in front of Holy Trinity Church, opposite Queen Anne Garage. The move was intended to stop cars parking on the pavement and on both sides of the road.
But objectors have told the council the restrictions have forced drivers to park further up Church Road, obstructing drives and stopping residents parking in front of their own homes.
Ward councillors say yellow lines have improved road safety, traffic flow and removed obstructive parking.
They want the order made permanent and say the church has a well-used car park which will keep street parking to a minimum.
