GALLERY Oldham opens its doors on a Sunday for the first time this weekend with an exhibition celebrating the creativity of artists from across the borough.

The Oldham Open is a bi-annual show open to anyone living and working in Oldham. This year’s event features work by more than 200 artists.

It showcases drawings, paintings and photographs as well as ceramics, jewellery and sculpture. Much of the work is for sale, with a range of prices to suit most pockets. The free exhibition will be open for seven days a week until November 29.

A free exhibition launch of the show takes place on Tuesday from 6-8.30pm with refreshments served — but you need to book.

Sunday opening, from 10am to 4pm, is part of a commitment from Oldham Council to make more leisure services available, particularly to families, at weekends.

Councillor John McCann, cabinet member for community services and housing, said: “Oldham Open is real evidence of the creativity that exists in the borough, and now the Gallery is open on Sundays, I’m hoping more people than ever will visit the exhibition and enjoy a range of work from traditional landscapes to quite contemporary pieces by amateurs, students and professional artists.

“What’s more, you’ll be able to get something to eat when the cafe opens in November.”
