LOCAL family doctor Kailash Chand has been crowned North-West GP of the Year.
The outspoken doctors’ leader retired as an Ashton GP in August when he was appointed as chairman of NHS Tameside and Glossop.
He has for many years been the voice of Oldham GPs, firstly as secretary of West Pennine Local Medical Committee and later as North-West member of the British Medical Association’s national council.
The accolade came from the Royal College of General Practitioners which set up the awards, now in their second year, to recognise outstanding contribution to primary care service provision or development. Dr Chand was chosen as North-West GP of the Year for distinguished long service to the local community, supporting his colleagues and for his passion for driving medical political debate.
Dr Chand said: “I am honoured to receive this award.”
Dr Chand was also awarded Fellowship of the British Medical Association at the awards ceremony.
