The rovers return
Date published: 20 October 2009
DOZENS of caravans have descended on B&Q car park as travellers set up camp for the fourth time this year.
Travellers also used the land at Mumps as their home in January, April and June. Talks were in place to put barriers up at the car park following the travellers’ last visit which left the owners with a huge clean-up bill.
Slabs of Tarmac, concrete, soil and shrubs were left behind on the car park which is still owned by B&Q.
B&Q is responsible for bailiff costs to remove travellers from the private land as well as any resulting clean-up operation. Camps have also been set up at Haggate in Middleton Road, St Anne’s School in Royton and Oldham Edge over the last 12 months.
