Former ballet dancer Olwen dies, aged 90

A FORMER Oldham woman who appeared in many Ivor Novello stage shows at London’s Drury Lane Theatre in the 1930s, has died in Somerset aged 90.
Mrs Olwen Anderson, a ballet dancer, trained as an ambulance driver in Oldham during the war. In 1945 she went to India with ENSA (Entertainment National Service Association) to entertain troops.
She married Alan in 1950 and the couple lived in Royton where she was secretary of the local branch of the NSPCC.
The couple moved to Somerset in 1978 where Mr Anderson continued his work as an orthodontist. He died in 2003.
Mrs Anderson, who leaves two sons, Quentin and Lindsay, died at a nursing home in Hambridge.
