MOTORISTS are being warned to keep their valuables out of sight after a spate of thefts in Royton and Shaw.
Between October 12 and 19, six cars were targeted, resulting in power tools being stolen.
Sgt Helen Osmond, of Royton and Shaw Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Leaving power tools and other valuables in your vehicle is an open invitation to thieves.
“Residents also need to make sure they secure their vehicles and use an alarm if possible. Parking in well-lit areas, preferably in a secure garage, is also a good deterrent.
“I also ask the public to be vigilant and tell us if they see anything suspicious.”
Officers have teamed up with agencies such as First Response and Community Safety Services to target known offenders in Royton and Shaw.
Extra patrols are also in place, including increased bike patrols in car parks, and residents are being given crime prevention advice.
Sgt Osmond added: “We are determined to reduce car crime across the neighbourhood and residents can help by providing us with information.
“The public can also make life hard for these criminals by residents being a little bit more careful. By following the simple advice given here people can keep themselves and their vehicles safe and help drive car thieves out of Royton and Shaw.”
One of the suspects is described as male, aged around 36, with a slim face and build.
