Dance delight for siblings

A PAIR of dancing siblings who showed off their fancy footwork during a dancing competition at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens have scooped the top titles.

Budding ballroom stars Jack (10) and Katie (15) Gartside were presented with trophies after winning their age categories.

Jack, from St Mary’s Primary School, Greenfield, won the 10 and under section in old time and sequence dance during the International Dance Teachers’ Association (IDTA) UK finals.

His sister, Katie, from Blue Coat School, won the under-16 modern sequence category and came third in the old-time section.

The dancing duo both won national titles in Blackpool two years ago, and repeated their success last month.

The talented pair both train at Trujons Dance Studio in Royton, and Jack was picked to dance tango on the Paul O’Grady television show last year.

Their proud father Mike Gartside (41), from Moorside, said: “They’ve been training very hard and both have really good dance partners so I was expecting them to do well.

“They both love dancing, although Jack also plays football as well, and I’m sure they will keep on dancing.

“A big thank-you must go to their dance partners Cara Durkin and Matthew Tomaszewski who came to Blackpool as well.”
