WORLD-renowned climber Kevin Thaw visited his home town to inspire youngsters taking up the sport.
The intrepid explorer, who now lives in California, handed out certificates to children who have passed Level One of the National Indoor Climbing Achievement Scheme (NICAS). The youngsters learned all about health and safety aspects of climbing, harness and helmets as well as basic climbing techniques.
Kevin, who has scaled mountains all over the world, said: “Oldham’s outdoor initiatives are proving the perfect safe springboard in granting tools and facilities to further adventures in our rich, wild hills.
“Geography in this region has provided the perfect hub for us to exist, while lapping up the wonders of the Peak National Park. I feel lucky to have grown up here and still find every day out as magical as the first.”
