OLDHAM town centre is cleaning up its act, thanks to new rules on handing out promotional flyers.
Strict guidelines which control when and where flyers can be handed out have been introduced by the council in a bid to combat litter.
Distributors must wear an authorisation badge and keep records about their staff activity.
Daytime leafleting (9am-6pm) is restricted to Henshaw Street/Albion Street, at the steps on Market Place, the junction of Albion Street and Market Place and the junction of Albion Street and Curzon Street.
At night (8pm-3am) businesses can apply to distribute from four sites — Pizza and Potato Factory, Northern Rock and Imperial City in Yorkshire Street and at the corner of Union Street/Bridge Street.
The rules don’t apply to religious, political or charity groups and all leaflets must contain details of the Drinkaware campaign.
