Children praised at fostering event
Date published: 10 November 2009
Oldham Council’s fostering service held a fun day for the sons and daughters of foster carers to thank them for welcoming other children into their home.
The event was organised as part of Sons and Daughters Week, a national campaign that recognises the vital contribution children of foster carers make.
The fostering service has 135 fostering families, providing placements for 233 children.
Michael Jameson, Oldham Council’s director of children’s services, said: “Foster carers’ own children become like brothers and sisters to those in care. I am thankful for the vital role they play in making so many of our placements a success.”
Anyone interested in becoming a foster carer can contact the council on 0161-770 6600 or by e-mail at fostering@oldham.gov.uk . There is also a website at website at www.oldham.gov.uk/fostering .
All foster carers are given full training and support. They receive payments and allowances up to £365 per week, dependant on skills and experience.
