Three teenagers who got lost in the dark in the Indian’s Head area above Greenfield have been saved by Oldham Mountain Rescue Team.
Twenty-five team members and a search dog set out on Monday evening after police were called by the lads who had walked from Ashton.
As darkness fell, the trio, who had no torch, realised they needed help and dialled 999 around 6.30pm.
Team member Denzil Broadhurst said: “The lads were able to give some details of where they were so two search parties headed towards the area, one group driven to Chew Reservoir.
“The lads were able to confirm by phone that they had seen the lights of the vehicle. A second vehicle stopped part way up the track, and by the use of powerful torches were able to confirm that the lads were near Stable Stones Brow.”
Although cold and damp, the teenagers walked to Chew Reservoir where the vehicles were waiting and taken to Dovestones Sailing Club where an ambulance crew checked them over.
Denzil added: “They were fortunate that the visibility was good otherwise the search could have taken much longer.”
