WOULD “loo” believe it . . . Martin Kelly from the Squire Knott toasts the toilets
THERE’S no better place to spend a penny than the Squire Knott in Yorkshire Street, Oldham.
That’s because the Wetherspoon pub has been crowned king of the toilets, along with the ASDA stores at Milne Street, Elk Mill and Shaw.
They have all scooped a top five-star rating in the 2009 Loo of the Year Awards.
Inspectors made unannounced visits to more than 1,500 toilets before handing out the accolades, which are aimed at highlighting and improving standards across the UK.
The toilets are marked on everything from décor and cleanliness to accessibility and hand washing equipment.
One to five stars are available, with unacceptable toilets not graded at all.
Squire Knott manager Caroline Davanzo said: “I am delighted. Staff work hard to ensure that the toilets are in first-class condition at all times and it is great that this has been recognised.”
Awards director Mike Bone added: “The toilets at The Squire Knott are superb and the pub richly deserves its five-star rating.”
