Salon raises £3,098 for sick children
A STEP back in time, a mammoth bike ride and a sponsored head shave — there’s nothing generous staff at a Failsworth hair salon won’t do for charity.
Hairdressers at Shampers in Lord Lane celebrated the salon’s 21st birthday with a 1980s party at Smokies Hotel in Bardsley.
Hundreds of guests, including customers past and present, joined the celebrations raising a whopping £2,333.
Staff also held an Eighties-themed day in the salon along with a sponsored head shave to boost funds.
This added to a 100-mile trek on an exercise bike in the salon which raised £700 earlier in the year.
In total, staff were able to present a cheque for £3,098 to MedEquip4Kids which raises money for equipment for children’s wards and neo-natal units at North-West hospitals. The money raised by Shampers will be used to provide phototherapy equipment for the Royal Oldham Hospital’s Maternity Unit to treat babies born with jaundice.
MedEquip4Kids’ events administrator, Rachel Allen, said: “I can’t thank Shampers enough for supporting MedEquip4Kids throughout 2009 and raising more than £3,000.
“They have put 100 per cent into all their fund-raising activities and have been a wonderful bunch of people to work with. Thanks to all their customers who have donated so generously and helping us purchase equipment for the Royal Oldham Hospital.”
