SMILES all round: oldham top young netball players
A SPECTACULAR summer of sporting achievement was celebrated at a presentation evening to reward Oldham’s netball stars.
Players, coaching staff and supporters from across the borough gathered at Royton Conservative Club to applaud the season’s best performers.
Winners from the Sports for All league, the Oldham Sports Centre league and the Hathershaw summer league rubbed shoulders as they received awards for their prowess.
Councillor Kay Knox, cabinet member for children, young people and families, said: “As well as players who get out and compete, there is a tremendous amount of support from coaching staff, families and friends who do so much to support teams and individuals.”
The event is a fitting reward for the many people involved in netball in the borough, and I would like to congratulate everyone involved.”
Oldham has five community netball clubs, with 18 teams of young players aged between eight and 18. Teams train regularly, and more than 100 young people and 20 volunteers are involved in weekly matches.
