Family tribute to van-crash grandad

THE family of an Oldham grandfather who died after his van crashed into a barrier have paid tribute to him.
Alan Whittaker (58) is believed to have collapsed at the wheel of his Transit van on Friday, November 13, at the time of the accident near Heaton Park.
His wife of five-months, Jennifer Hamilton Davies, said: “He was fun to be with and you never had a dull moment with Alan.”
Mr Whittaker was well-known in Oldham for his association with the town’s music shop, Discland.
Besides his love of music, his hobbies included travel, reading and cricket.
His also had a son, stepson, two grandchildren and two sisters, who joined with his wife to pay tribute to Mr Whittaker.
No-one else was injured in the crash and police inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the collision are ongoing.
