GROUNDWORK Oldham and Rochdale is recruiting a team of graduates to benefit local communities.
The charity is looking for volunteer workers to take part in their v challenge programme, a 13-week scheme that gives project-management skills and boosts employability.
The rise of unemployment during the recession has caused concern among graduates and has affected their ability to climb their chosen career ladder when leaving university.
But the charity is helping to break the cycle of having no experience, by helping graduates gain employment and obtain the relevant skills.
As part of v challenge, graduates take charge of a number of community projects that benefit people in Oldham, with recent examples including the Fullwood Community Engagement project in St James’s ward, which has increased community involvement at a local nature site.
James Ferguson, v project manager, said: “The success of v challenge is down to giving local young people the chance to gain project-management experience, through community projects, for the benefit of both them and the people of Oldham and Rochdale.”
V is an independent charity aiming to inspire a new generation of volunteers aged 16-25. As well as using the skills gained at university, graduates gain the knowledge and experience of real projects, which helps them find employment.
Since 1993, Groundwork has helped over 1,000 graduates get jobs. Some are now working within Groundwork.
The closing date for applications is November 30 for placements starting on January 18, 2010.
Placements will also run next June and September.
