SANTA is coming to the streets of High Crompton, Shaw, Heyside, and Royton to spread some Christmas cheer.

His friends at the Rotary Club of Crompton and Royton have again arranged the visit with Father Christmas and his grotto touring the streets from Monday, December 7 to Friday, December 11.

He will also be present in the Asda car park on Saturday, December 5, and Saturday, December 12, 10am-3pm.

The Rotary Club will be making a cash collection for the benefit of the local community.

Event organiser Philip Day said: “We have toured the streets with Father Christmas for many years and it always an exciting time.

“The young children love it and quite often there is a queue to see the old chap.

“The lists the children give him seem to get longer and more imaginative every year.

“One parent who brought her child to meet Father Christmas last year told us that when she was small she always looked forward to our visit. She went on to thank us for keeping the event running.

“Last year the public were so generous we collected nearly £3,000.

“This we have used to support the local community including outings for the elderly, support for local hospices, the new Christie Appeal, equipment for children in hospital and help for many smaller local charities.

“This year we are also working in partnership with Oldham Council ‘Street Scene’ to have a mass planting of daffodils along Crompton Way. In the spring this will brighten up Shaw tremendously and provide pleasure for the whole community, not only this coming year but for many years to come.

“So if you live in Crompton and Royton and hear the sound of Christmas Music and see flashing lights it’ll be Father Christmas and the Rotary Club bringing Christmas to the streets and looking for a little help so we can help you.

“We being joined by members of Crompton House School Sixth Form and Royton ATC and their help is greatly appreciated.”
