Date published: 01 December 2009
A GLODWICK man had a lucky escape when he was rescued from his home following a suspected arson attack.
The 40-year-old is recovering at the Royal Oldham Hospital after the blaze at the property in Barlow Street at 1.30am.
Two crews from Oldham Fire Station tackled the flames which had destroyed the front door and hallway of the terrace house.
Crowds who gathered outside told officers that there was a man trapped upstairs so he was rescued and treated at the scene by paramedics for the effects of smoke inhalation.
The victim did not have a working smoke alarm installed and firefighters worked for several hours to get the blaze under control.
A joint investigation has been launched by police and the fire service to determine the cause.
