Councillor’s protected tree gets the chop
Date published: 02 December 2009
A developer has chopped down a protected tree at the home of an Oldham councillor.
Councillor Jilad Miah has applied to build a three storey extension and balcony at his Werneth home, plus a two metre wall and gate at the rear of the detached house in Windsor Road.
There has been one objection due to loss of outlook and additional noise.
Planning officers recommend the scheme is approved, but because a councillor is involved, the proposals will have to go before an Oldham Planning Committee meeting to be decided in public.
The whole site is covered by a tree preservation order, but one in the front garden has been chopped down by the developer who has been reported to the council.
