HAMSTERS: Get them while — and if — you can
Christmas demand for toy hamsters is outstripping supply
THOUSANDS of youngsters could be left disappointed this Christmas as a popular toy flies off the shelves, leaving parents facing a fruitless search.
Go Go Pets, distributed through Toy Options at Leesbrook Mill in Lees, were named as one of a dream dozen toys set to dominate children’s festive wish lists.
The range of interactive hamsters that squeak and scuttle across the floor have become an overnight success in the UK and US.
Sales of the toys are expected to see explosive growth throughout next year, but demand for the product is far outstripping supply ahead of Christmas.
The firm’s website carries a message that says the Go Go Pets toys are out of stock until further notice.
Go Go Pets are available online, with some private sellers hoping to cash–in on scarcity of stock by offering the £9.99 hamsters for over £30, but restrictions will now be placed on the number of products customers can buy at once.
The firm expects to have sold between 600,000 and 700,000 of the toys by Christmas, with some of that stock still to be delivered.
There are four hamsters in the Go Go Pets range — Chunk, Mr Squiggles, Num Nums and Pipsqueak— as well as various accessories.
