Carers offered support
Date published: 03 December 2009
Oldham Carers’ Emergency Support Service will be officially launched tomorrow — the ninth annual Carers’ Rights Day.
The service is a practical response to carers’ worries about what might happen in an emergency situation.
Carers are given an emergency card with a phone number on it to carry with them at all times.
When the number is called, the service’s control room can get in touch with the carer’s emergency contacts.
If they are not available, Oldham Council’s Rapid Response will step in.
The event also aims to inform carers of the rights, benefits and services they are entitled to.
The national awareness day has been organised by Carers UK and will be held at the Princess Royal Trust Oldham Carers’ Centre, The Link Centre, Union Street.
Registration will be from 10am with Oldham Mayor, Councillor Jim McArdle, kick-starting the day at 11am.
There will also be guest speakers throughout the morning as well as information stands from a range of other services.
