Intruder sparks warning
Date published: 04 December 2009
RESIDENTS have been warned not to leave windows and doors open — even when there’s someone in the house — after an intruder demanded cash after sneaking into a pensioner’s home in Limeside.
The 65-year-old victim, who was watching television, was told: “I want your money.”
But after the man challenged him, the raider fled.
The would-be thief is described as white, of thin build with a thin face, 5ft 6in tall, in his early to mid-30s with short brown hair. He was unshaven and of scruffy appearance.
PC Janet McNally, said: “Sadly, this incident represents how opportunistic some thieves are.”
The incident happened around 7.30pm on Friday, November 13, when the intruder walked into a house on Lime Green Road, after a door had been left ajar.
PC McNally added: “Although nothing was stolen it was an unpleasant experience for the victim.
“I would urge other residents not to leave windows and doors open when possible.
“If anyone has any information about the person responsible I would ask them to get in touch.”
Anyone with information is asked to call Greater Manchester Police on 0161-856 8910, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
