Villages sparkle in festive shows
THE streets of Saddleworth came to life as Christmas lights in Diggle, Uppermill, Delph and Greenfield were switched on.
In Delph, retired magician Jack Highton and the village’s oldest residents Stanley Stewart and Clara Shaw pushed the plunger to illuminate High Street for the festive season.
Oldham Scottish Pipe Band paid a visit to help celebrations go with a bang and visitors enjoyed carols, Santa’s grotto, an ice rink and a firework finale.
Revellers followed Santa to the Square in Uppermill for Christmas carols following the big switch-on.
Over in Diggle, villagers enjoyed a carol service led by Diggle School Choir and Brass Band before browsing a Christmas sweet shop and mulled wine.
Youngsters from local primary school choirs provided the entertainment in Greenfield with accompaniment by Boarshurst Band.
