ROCKING for charity . . . Mid-life Crisis at this year’s Playhouse 2 gig
A FUND-RAISING band is once again coming to the aid of two local hospices.
Mid-Life Crisis (MLC) are to return to Shaw’s Playhouse 2 Theatre in March, 2010, after wowing a sell-out audience this year with pop and rock from the last six decades. But to maximise the money the group can donate to Dr Kershaw’s and Springhill hospices, they are looking for sponsors to help cover costs.
Band member Bernie Allen, from Shaw, who performs guitar and vocals, said: “We had some fantastic sponsors last year and that meant we could pass on all the money from ticket sales to the two charities, £1,600.
“I think it’s great for our audience to know that every penny they give goes straight to the charity. In the hope of being able to do exactly the same this year, and as we have already paid the deposit, we are looking for some kind benefactor to help us cover the remainder of the cost of the theatre for the 2010 gig.”
They are expecting that many who enjoyed the previous night will return and hope to inspire plenty of audience participation again.
Since forming in 2001, MLC have evolved into a five-piece band also consisting of bass player Michael Turner, from Oldham, drummer Pete O’Connor, from Bury, guitarist Alan Humphries, from Dobcross and keyboard player Phil Horrocks, from Shaw. They all perform vocals as well.
They always give their services for free to raise money for worthy causes — even though it usually costs them to play.
The band have raised around £25,000 since first performing and this year received a prestigious honour — The BT Chairman’s Award — in recognition of their achievements and community ethos.
The band also raised money for the Christies at Oldham appeal this year.
Tickets go on sale in the New Year, when more details will be released. Places are expected to be snapped up so book quickly.
