Hair-raising success

AN Oldham hairdresser has scooped a prestigious award after helping to create a series of garden-themed styles.
Leanne Allsopp, who works at Nicky Oliver’s Salon in Manchester, and her team scooped the Avant-Garde 2009 Award at the prestigious Black Hair and Beauty hairdressing awards at London’s Metropole Hotel.
The team designed four styles with a garden theme to secure the trophy, which was presented to them by former athlete Linford Christie.
Back at his Oldham Street salon, Nicky said: “I’m delighted with this accolade because the judges recognised the hard work and determination that made this ambitious range of four styles possible.
“Although avant-garde by nature, the styles all reflect a garden theme that we thought was appropriate at a time when the world is worrying about the effects of global warming. One of the styles represents a bush, another a bunch of flowers, and a third, the grass tumbling over a garden wall.
“Finally, we present the tree style which features a tree shape on the top of the model’s head. Avant-garde styles they may be, but they have a serious underlying message.”
