MORE than 100 young Shaw and Crompton musicians gathered for a spectacle of music to delight a full house.
The occasion was Shaw and Crompton Parish Council’s annual Christmas festival in which primary children from five schools joined together for a musical celebration.
Bands from St Mary’s, High Crompton; St Joseph’s, Shaw; Buckstones, Shaw; Rushcroft, High Crompton, and St James School, East Crompton took to the stage to entertain their parents, families and friends.
It is the second year the festival has been held at St Paul’s Church, and parish councillor David Dunning said each of the 120 available seats was taken by the audience, and even more supporters were standing.
Councillor Dunning, who is also chairman of the parish council’s communication and promotions sub-committee, said: “They are such talented children and it was great for them to be able to play for such a large live audience — they loved it.
“They practised for three or four months for this special occasion.
“They played carols and other pieces of music, and it was absolutely superb.”
Each school received a plaque from parish council chairman Marie Wisewell, and she will now visit them individually to thank the children who took part and present each of them with a certificate.
