THE torch is burning brightly for Dr Kershaw’s Hospice, as companies across the town line-up to take up a fund-raising challenge.
The Pass the Torch campaign, kicked off by Oldham’s Tesco Extra store, in Huddersfield Road, has netted more than £22,000 for hospice funds since it was launched in September.
Supermarket staff pedalled up the pounds in a sponsored cycling marathon, and Salton Europe employees followed in their footsteps with a sponsored walk.
The torch has now passed over to the Rose of Lancaster, which has pledged to stage a month of events throughout December to raise vital funds for the hospice.
The Chadderton pub has already held a race night and a JW Lees Brewery tour, and is urging people to join in four more events to have fun in a good cause.
On Friday, the pub’s “Rose girls” will go on tour of local JW Lees pubs, in a charity pub crawl, collecting cash in buckets, and on Wednesday, December 16, entertainer Morgan will be on stage, with admission charges donated to Kershaw’s,
On Tuesday, December 22, the Haigh Lane pub will host a charity Christmas quiz, with 10 per cent of payments for tables booked in advance going to the hospice, as will the profits from the sale of tickets for the pub’s New Year’s Eve “black and white” fancy dress party.
