THE achievements of children in care took centre stage at a star-studded celebration.
Snow Patrol manager Jazz Summers and ex-Skids frontman Richard Jobson were among the guests at Stars In Our Eyes event at the Queen Elizabeth Hall that was also attended by Mayor of Oldham Councillor Jim McCardle.
The annual ceremony recognises the achievements of looked-after children, and those leaving care, who have made a difference to their own lives and others.
And this year more than 215 young people were nominated for a range of awards including Child of the Year, Young Person of the Year and Care Leavers of the Year. Councillor Kay Knox, cabinet member for children, young people and families, said: “This event is part of the council’s corporate parenting responsibility which it takes very seriously.
“It is very important that we recognise the achievements of looked-after children and care leavers and challenging the stereotypical negative image of this group of citizens.
“This event is a chance for us all to recognise and reward positive achievements and for everyone to have a fun and enjoyable night.”
