Nazi sale probe boss returns

A COUNCIL manager who was suspended after Nazi memorabilia was offered for sale on eBay via his work email address will not lose his job.
No further action will be taken against Ian Meynell, Street Scene manager for Saddleworth and Lees, following a disciplinary hearing.
He was suspended in October after a copy of Adolf Hitler’s “Mein Kampf”, two German war medals and Second World War German cigarette card collection were offered for sale.
The seller’s eBay identity was shown as “ombcmanager” and responses to inquiries about the items for sale were signed off “thanks, Ian”.
Charlie Parker, Oldham Council’s chief executive, said: “I can confirm that — following the initial suspension — a disciplinary hearing has now taken place regarding the allegations made about the abuse of an email account belonging to the local authority.
“This issue was taken very seriously and dealt with in accordance with our disciplinary procedure. In keeping with that, the outcome and the actions taken must remain a strictly private matter.
“I can confirm, however, that the member of staff concerned will shortly be resuming their duties with Oldham Council.”
