CHRISTMAS arrived early for the Victoria Breast Care Unit — thanks to a £13,000 present.
The Woman of Oldham Committee donated the money to the facility, based at the Royal Oldham Hospital, after a year of hard work and fund-raising events.
Anne Sankaran MBE, chairman of the committee, said: “This fantastic sum of money is a record amount raised by the Woman of Oldham Committee through its fund-raising events throughout the year, such as the charity luncheon which was held in September.
“This is of course only made possible by the generosity of sponsors and members of the public who support all our fund-raising events year on year.
“This year, our funds received an unexpected boost from the sponsorship money raised by Nicky Whitehurst who ran the New York Marathon.”
Consultant breast surgeon Maria Bramley added: “It is a sensitive time for most women and this generous donation will help to enhance the current facilities and environment for our patients to make their visits to the Victoria Breast Unit as comfortable as possible.
“We thank the Woman of Oldham Committee for its very generous donation.”
