PUPILS got their hands dirty during a visit to a vehicle workshop as part of their Higher Level Diploma in Engineering.
Students aged 14 to 16 from South Chadderton School, Kaskenmoor School and St Augustines School spent the day learning new skills at Oldham Motor Company (OMC).
The group of 15 students learned about diagnostics and health and safety among other topics during their day-long visit.
The visit is designed to give students practical work experience as a vehicle technician as part of the two-year course as well as them a taste of working life.
It was set up in conjunction with Positive Steps, Chris Egan, workshop manager at OMC, and Khuram Sardar, head of department at South Chadderton School and lead of the Engineering Diploma in Oldham.
Ruth Dyson, employment engagement adviser at Positive Steps, said: “This year has been the first time the Engineering Diploma has run in Oldham schools.
“It has proved very successful and we are really grateful to Chris Egan who put a lot of effort into making it a great day for us.
“Next September will see diplomas starting in sport and leisure, health and social care, business administration and finance, IT and public services.
“We are looking for companies and employers in Oldham to get involved.”
