Flats fire sparks warning
Date published: 21 December 2009
FIRE chiefs have warned a tragedy could happen if youths continue to spark fires in a block of flats.
The electrics were damaged in the bin room and communal area of Newquay House, Park Way, Chadderton, and a flat was smoke damaged after a blaze at 7.30pm on Friday.
Chadderton Fire Station watch commander Mike Harris said it was suspected that youths had broken in to the bin room and set fire to cardboard to keep warm.
A similar incident occurred last month.
He said: “Youngsters are getting into a secure area and the repercussions could be serious.”
Police are investigating.
