DS Ian Webb, of Oldham CID, said: “We work extremely hard to make Oldham a safe and enjoyable night out for people and such wanton acts of violence will not be tolerated.

“We have acted swiftly to make a number of arrests but I would urge others, who would undoubtedly have been in the area and witnessed what happened, to call police.

“Please do not rely on others to come forward. The more information we can gather to get the kind of people responsible for this attack behind bars, the better.”
