Makeover for canal pathways
Date published: 23 December 2009
FUNDS to improve canal-side paths for cyclists, walkers, anglers and disabled people have been boosted by an extra £20,000 from the Environment Agency.
Oldham Council wants to provide safe alternative cycle and walking routes away from main roads, with two schemes being carried out during the winter, ready for Easter.
They are in the Rochdale Canal/Moston Brook area of Failsworth, and at the Huddersfield Narrow Canal through Saddleworth, and will create multi-use corridors. Part of the total costs, £56,000, come from Government grants for local transport, but this has now been boosted by £20,000 from the Agency.
