Date published: 29 December 2009
A BOY’S Brigade officer charged alongside an Oldham man with the biggest ever cocaine seizure in Northern Ireland has received a death threat in jail.
Terence Telford (38), from Belfast, faces charges of being concerned in the supply of class A drugs, conspiracy to supply, possession and possession with intent to supply.
Barrister Philip Magee told the High Court that Mr Telford had informed him of threats made against him since he was taken into custody.
Telford also claimed he only agreed to collect a package containing £5 million worth of cocaine to get back £200 he was owed.
Long distance lorry driver Terence Bean (62), formerly of Sparrow Street, Royton, but now living in Malaga, Spain, also faces the same charges.
Bean, who has worked as a lorry driver for the past 15 years, previously told the court he believed he was transporting Christian books.
A third man, Michael Reeves (28), of Belfast, is accused of conspiracy to supply cocaine.
All three were remanded in custody at Belfast Magistrates’ Court.
They are due to appear again via video-link on January 18.
