Sneak thief steals van
Date published: 04 January 2010
A VAN containing detonators has been stolen in Chadderton.
The Network Rail combi van was taken while the driver was de-icing it on Broadway shortly after 11am on Saturday.
It contained six warning detonators which are placed on rail tracks to warn train drivers that workmen are ahead.
Det Con Simon Hurdley, of Oldham CID, said: “This was a brazen theft that sadly acts as a strong warning to motorists not to leave their engines running while de-icing their vehicles.
“My main concern is that someone will not know what the detonators are and will mess about with them, potentially harming themselves and others.
Anyone with information should call Oldham CID on 0161-856 8951 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
