Struggling school back on track

A SECONDARY school which was ordered to improve has made rapid progress.
Education watchdog Ofsted says exam results have increased significantly at St Augustine, Werneth.
Attendance is satisfactory, most pupils behave well, they enjoy school and settle in well.
St Augustine will merge with Our Lady’s, Royton, in a new £30million Catholic high school in Chadderton in 2012.
In September 2008 the school was branded as having a “legacy of underachievement” and that pupils were receiving an inadequate education. Official notice that it must improve was handed down, but inspectors now say the school no longer needs significant improvement.
Head teacher Mike McGhee said: “We are very pleased with the school’s inspection report and I would like to thank all of the staff, pupils, parents and governors for their contribution.
“All involved with the school are committed to making St Augustine even better over the coming year.”
