PLANS to extend a mosque in a terraced house in Shaw have been refused by Oldham Planning Committee.
The Mohammedia Masjid and Islamic Centre in Refuge Street wanted to convert its first floor into a mosque to accommodate more people.
But councillors agreed with an officers’ recommendation that extra visitors would create noise and disturb neighbours.
Two letters of objection had been sent in by residents.
The ground floor of the two-storey, mid-terraced property is currently used as a mosque, with auxiliary facilities on the first floor.
The applicants insisted the additional space was only required for the extra worshippers on a Friday.
