Lorry stuck

A BULGARIAN lorry driver blocked a Mossley street after his lorry slid down an icy hill on Tuesday.
Neighbours called police at 7pm after the HGV slipped on ice in Carrhill Road and got stuck at the junction with New Earth Street in Top Mossley. Tameside Council workers managed to dig out the vehicle.
Funerals cancelled
FUNERALS have been disrupted by the severe weather which has hit the borough. Services have been postponed after snow and ice caused treacherous conditions on some roads.
Diane Cooke, part-owner of Saddleworth Funeral Services in Delph, said: “We had to cancel a funeral on Tuesday as we couldn’t get out of the village.
“We will have to wait until the weather eases off. The family was understanding.”
Other funeral directors outside Saddleworth suffered some delays and Jane Murphy, Oldham Council’s crematorium and cemetery manager, reported no problems.
Louts target cars
MOTORISTS who abandoned their cars in the snow at Park Bridge returned to find louts had set them alight. Fire fighters turned out at 11.30pm yesterday to put out three cars all parked in a row and said the fires appeared to be deliberate.
Car park open
Though nine town centre council car parks are closed, the multi-storey Hobson Street car park, which is covered, is open.
