How to preserve those memories
Date published: 08 January 2010
THE word “archives” may conjure visions of dusty old crumbling documents covered in a raft of cobwebs — but that’s only because we don’t know how to protect our family treasures.
Now Oldhamers are being offered the chance to learn thanks to local studies and archives officer Jo Robson.
A meeting of the Oldham branch of the Manchester and Lancashire Family History Society takes place at the Education Suite, Gallery Oldham, on Saturday.
Starting at 2pm, Jo will give a talk on how to preserve 21st birthday cards, wedding invitations, old postcards and photos so that future generations will be able to use and make sense of them.
There will also be an opportunity to purchase copies of three newly-published research CDs covering Saddleworth Parish Records, scanned rare military books about the Manchester Regiment, and researching Oldham and district First World War servicemen in the local paper. Admission is £2 to non-members, £1 members.
