THOUSANDS of Oldham pupils were back in the classroom today after the big freeze caused all but a handful of schools to close last week.
A total of eight primary schools and two secondary schools remained closed to all or most pupils, or reduced their opening hours because of wintry weather today.
For pupils at Oldham’s remaining 108 schools, it was business as usual.
Oldham Council reported just four schools opened when the worst of the weather hit last week.
More schools opened as the week progressed, and as temperatures rose above freezing today and the predicted white weekend failed to materialise, the vast majority took the decision to open.
Breeze Hill Secondary School was open between 10am and 3.05am for years 10 and 11 students only, but said it would be open to all students tomorrow.
The Radclyffe School, Chadderton, was open to all students from 9.50am to 1.10pm.
The primary schools which are still closed are Christ Church, Denshaw; Glodwick Infant and Nursery School; Horton Mill, Southlink. Littlemoor and Alexandra Park were also closed, although the latter was open to teachers.
St Margaret’s, Hollinwood, opened from 10am, St Hugh’s, Holts, opened from 8.50am until 2pm, and Woodhouses opened at 10am.
Oldham Council’s website, www.oldham.gov.uk has regular updates on which schools are closed, and parents and carers are advised keep a check on it.
