Electric blanket test
Date published: 12 January 2010
AGE Concern is inviting over-50s to have their electric blanket tested for safety.
The event is being run in partnership with the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service and Oldham Council. Any blanket that fails the test will be replaced free of charge.
The event will take place in the meeting room at Oldham Sports Centre, Lord Street, next Tuesday.
To book an appointment call Age Concern Oldham on 0161-633 0213.
At the last testing event, 60 per cent of blankets failed.
John Lake, from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, said: “Old and damaged blankets have caused thousands of fires, with older people being at greatest risk.
“Many of the blankets we see at our annual events are potentially lethal.”
