OldhamERS are needed to help promote Cancer Research UK’s events across the North-West this year.
The charity is asking men and women to step forward as marketing volunteers and help with tasks such as distributing leaflets and posters as well as looking for ways to promote Cancer Research at community events.
They will be helping to highlight Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life and Run 10k events, which will take place in the summer and autumn.
As well as practical, hands-on experience in event marketing, and working with people from all walks of life, they will be contributing to a worthwhile cause.
Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life is Britain’s largest women-only fund-raising event series.
In 2009, more than 730,000 women of all ages and fitness levels took part in 230 Race for Life events across the country, including 2,500 women in Oldham.
The Run 10k series took place during the autumn, with some 50,000 men and women taking part.
North-West event manager Chris Walters said: “This is a perfect opportunity for everyone to volunteer and do something really positive to help beat cancer. Without the dedication of local men and women, who volunteer their time and energy, our events simply wouldn’t be possible.”
One-in-three people in Britain will be diagnosed with cancer at some stage in their lives. But the good news is that more people are beating the disease than ever before. Survival rates have doubled over the last 30 years and Cancer Research UK’s work has been at the heart of that progress.
Mr Walters added: “Our volunteers have a great time working with other members of the community to create a hugely successful fund-raising event.
“Everyone is welcome to volunteer and we can promise a fun and rewarding experience.”
Mr Walters will help to brief, guide and support volunteers.
