Charity appeals for local support

GET out your sledge, dig out your skis and dust off your walking boots — Oldham Cancer Support Centre is ploughing ahead with a fund-raising night in Greenfield, despite the bad weather.
Organiser Beverley Heap needs the support of around 60 locals after taking the brave decision to go ahead with Friday’s event at St Mary’s School.
She too lives in Greenfield and said: “We still have deep snow here, but I don’t want to cancel because everything is in place.
“I have decided to go ahead regardless of the weather, but I am worried that some people might not be able to get there if they are travelling any distance.
“So I am inviting locals who have been snowed in for days to support us.
“The response has been good so far, and it is creating a good community spirit.”
Tickets cost £10 and include a glass of wine and supper. Proceeds will be boosted by wine-tasting on a voucher system.
They are available from Beverley on 07754-533 026 or at the door (7.30pm start).
