Group left out in cold

A DRAMA and fitness group for young disabled people has been left temporarily homeless after its usual meeting place suffered weather damage.

All Stars Drama Group and Funky Fitness and Fun, which are run by Carita Smith, usually meets at the Honeywell Centre in Hathershaw, but the building currently has restricted access after parts of the roof and wall fell down because of heavy snowfall.

Contractors can’t get up on to the roof to investigate the problem until all the snow and ice has gone, so Carita has been told that it will be February 1 at the earliest before the group can go back to its base.

She said: “There are 40 members in the drama group and 20 in the fitness group and they are having to miss out. It’s not the centre’s fault but the members get a lot out of the groups so it’s a shame that they can’t carry on.”
