A ROYTON resident called police on his mobile phone as he chased a bank raider who got away with £25,000.
The customer had just walked into the Yorkshire Bank in Market Street, Shaw, on Monday, as the thief struggled with a G4S security guard carrying the cash bag in his hand.
Police are appealing for more witnesses to the 3.40 pm attack.
The Royton man, who has already spoken to CID, said: “The thief was not wearing a mask or gloves and appeared to be an opportunist. His complexion was grey and he looked like he was on drink or drugs.
“The security guard had a box in one hand and a sealed polythene bag with the money in the other.
“When the man ran out I happened to be in his way and tried to stop him, and though he didn’t appear to have a weapon, when he threatened to hurt me I let him pass.
“But I chased him outside calling the police on my mobile, and saw him run down the alley at the side of Tesco, then across a car park and towards some flats.
“The police arrived in minutes, but although there were other people in the bank, no-one followed me.”
He said police searched for fingerprints in the bank, and examined CCTV after the raid.
The raider was white, mid 40s, 5ft 10in to 5 ft 11in tall, medium build, with a black beanie hat, black coat and blue jeans.
