IN harmony . . . the Manchester Show Choir
LOCAL singers are needed to swell the ranks of a fundraising choir that has performed with celebrities on stages across Manchester.
The Manchester Show Choir was formed in 2009 to raise funds for the Christie Hospital.
Daniel Wood, community development manager at New Bridge School in Hollinwood, founded the group after his grandfather Harvey Carter was treated at the hospital.
He said: “My grandfather was treated at Christie’s for over three years and received exceptional treatment and care. As a professional vocalist and theatre producer I wanted to give something back and so I set up this choir.”
The choir performed alongside “X Factor” winner Alexandra Burke at the Manchester Christmas lights switch on and sang on the pitch at Manchester City’s ground on Boxing Day.
The choir will now launch a singing and sign language choir for disabled youngsters aged from seven to 19 which will be funded by Aiming High.
Daniel added: “As a teacher at New Bridge and as the founder of The Manchester Show Choir it is really exciting to be bringing both aspects of my work together. It will be a great opportunity for young people across Oldham to work with industry professionals and to perform alongside the main choir at such venues as The Lowry.”
The choir is now preparing for a concert at Salford’s Lyric Theatre in March as well as performances at the Trafford Centre and The City of Manchester Stadium later this year.
The group aims to raise £100,000 for Christie’s before April, 2011, and urge anyone interested in joining to visit www.manchestershowchoir.com
