History of guiding on display
Date published: 18 January 2010
AN exhibition celebrating 100 years of girlguiding has opened at Gallery Oldham.
The event honours a century of history and achievements for the girl guides, an institution still going strong today.
From rainbows and brownies, and up to the Trefoil Guild, there are more than 1,500 members in the Oldham area alone, with 10 million girls and women involved in guiding worldwide.
On display will be a wide selection of photographs, uniforms, pennants, certificates and badges from across the decades.
There will also be special events on Sunday, February 21, the guides’ “Thinking Day”. Visitors are welcome to come along on the day and make friendship bracelets, between noon and 3pm.
Councillor John McCann, cabinet member for community services and housing, said: “This exhibition is a great way to learn more about the local history of the girl guides.”
The exhibition runs until February 28. Admission is free.
