Young women and girls in Westwood and Coldhurst can look forward to more leisure and social activities after securing a council youth grant.
Westwood Youth Group has been awarded over £5,000 to provide new activities for the next six months.
The group is connected to Westwood & Coldhurst Women’s Association and was set up by young girls from the local area.
It is supported by Kerrching, the Youth Opportunity Fund provided by Oldham Council, which has helped young people to take part in activities such as canoeing, raft building, arts and crafts, Nintendo wii competitions, ice skating and much more.
Rina Surjan, Women’s Development Officer for WCWA, said: “ All credit is due to the young girls who came up with the ideas and had the confidence to implement change in their own community.
“Their hard work has enabled young girls to come together and socialise in a safe environment.”
The group meets every weekend at the Millennium Centre of Featherstall Road North, Oldham, but Rina said that it has proved do popular there is now a waiting list,
She can be contacted by emailing info@wcwa.org.uk
